Good morning everyone,

#130 at a Glance:

  • Quote: Start with the best opportunity available.

  • Podcast: Tucker Carlson x Sam Altman.

  • Article: Warren Buffet’s final letter to shareholders.

  • Hack: Lock-in routine.

  • Tweet: Discipline comes from clarity, not force.

Quote I’ve been thinking about:

“Start with the best opportunity available to you. If you make the most of what you have in front of you right now, better opportunities will become available as you go along.”

James Clear

Podcast I listened to:

The Tucker Carlson Show: Sam Altman

A no-holds-barred interview with arguably the most influential entrepreneur in the world right now: Sam Altman, the man with the keys to OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Wild stuff.

Tucker certainly didn’t hold anything back in this one, firing questions on:

  • Whether AI will one day take over the world

  • Which jobs are most vulnerable to AI

  • How OpenAI defines the ethical boundaries of ChatGPT

  • Sam’s relationship with God

  • The mysterious death of his former employee

One of the most liked comments I saw on the YouTube video was: “Pretty sure Altman regrets agreeing to this interview.”

Accurate.

Listen on Spotify or YouTube.

Article I read:

Warren Buffett’s Final Letter to Shareholders

Last week, Warren Buffett released his final letter to shareholders of Berkshire Hathaway.

Very thoughtful piece and I really admire Warren’s writing style – it’s a breath of fresh air.

Some of my favourite takeaways:

  • “Decide what you would like your obituary to say and live the life to deserve it.”

  • “Choose your heroes very carefully and then emulate them. You will never be perfect, but you can always be better.”

Check out the full letter here.

Hack I’ve been using:

The Lock-In Routine

Very happy to say that I’ve just finished my last uni exam period for the year!

No matter how many times I’ve been through them, it’s always a highly strenuous and demanding time where my academic commitments tend to overtake virtually every other aspect of my life.

Which is completely to be expected – there’s a time for every season.

One of the things a uni exam block does force you to do is lock-in for big hours of work and focus…

Whenever there’s a task that I’m struggling with or don’t know how to tackle, this is the 4-step routine that usually kicks me into gear in <10 minutes:

  1. Cold shower. It has to be cold, or at least finish cold for 30 seconds. Jolts your mind and body into action.

  2. Coffee. Assuming it’s not past 4pm, go for it. Huberman won’t mind.

  3. Turn your phone off. This is the biggest one.

  4. Set a timer for task completion. Forces you to have something to answer to.

That’s it.

Good luck out there.

Tweet I liked:

Discipline Comes From Clarity, Not Force

Something I’ve long believed but haven’t been able to articulate as brilliantly.
