Good morning everyone,

#126 at a Glance:

  • Quote: Living one day at a time.

  • Podcast: The training ground secrets that made Man Utd unbeatable.

  • Interesting Phenomenon: Political ideologies and physical strength.

  • Tool: Perplexity.

  • Tweet: The best way to get new customers.

Quote I’ve been thinking about:

“Anyone can carry his burden, however hard, until nightfall. Anyone can do his work, however hard, for one day. Anyone can live sweetly, patiently, lovingly, purely, till the sun goes down. And this is all life really means.”

Robert Louis Stevenson

Podcast I listened to:

The Diary Of A CEO with Steven Bartlett: Rio Ferdinand

Rio Ferdinand is a footballing legend most well-known in his role as a centre back for Manchester United and the English national team.

This conversation is one of my favourites from Steven and one that I was more than happy to revisit.

Honest, raw, and a true perspective on what it is that made the Manchester United dressing room tick during their Premier League dynasty.

Lots of parallels between sport and life in this one, a great watch.

Listen on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or YouTube.

Interesting Phenomenon I came across:

Political Ideologies and Physical Strength

“The University of Arkansas found that political ideology predicts how people judge male leaders based on physical strength:

  • Conservatives, especially men, were more likely to support physically strong men as leaders.

  • Left-wing authoritarians were less likely to do so, showing an aversion to muscular male leaders.

  • Across all participants, stronger-looking men were perceived as more conservative, even though their actual politics were unknown.

Researchers suggest this reflects evolved stereotypes: strength signals dominance, hierarchy, and enforcement — values conservatives admire but egalitarian authoritarians reject.”

Tool I’ve been using:

Perplexity

Although ChatGPT is without doubt the most popular AI search engine, a friend of mine recently got me onto Perplexity, and I’ve been loving it.

I’m finding that I now trial the same prompt with both ChatGPT and Perplexity just to compare the responses. Obviously, given ChatGPT now has years of precedent with my prompt habits as a user, the results tend to be more tailored to me, but notwithstanding that advantage, I’ve been very impressed at the quality of Perplexity’s responses.

What really won me over to try it out was the current offer they have for students: sign up as a student and verify your status with your student ID to enjoy 1-year of Perplexity Pro for free, with no credit card information required.

Recommend checking it out.
