#124 – Stories & Self-Care
Quote, Podcast, Framework, Mental Model, Tweet.
Good morning everyone,
Hope you’re having a great week!
Let’s jump in.
read online on my website

#124 at a Glance:
Quote: The body and the mind.
Podcast: Mark Bouris x Glenn Pallister.
Framework: How to deliver a compelling story.
Mental Model: Finding time for yourself.
Tweet: Running ads on Microsoft Bing.
Quote I’ve been thinking about:
“The body must be trained to match the mind. A cultivated spirit housed in a withered body is a contradiction.”
Podcast I listened to:
Straight Talk #210 – Glenn Pallister
Glenn Pallister is an award-winning Australian TV producer best known for his role as the EP of Channel 9’s ‘The Footy Show’ from 1994 to 2017.
This conversation was simply awesome, bringing the glory years of Australian television to life.
What struck me most about this podcast was not only how captivating Glenn is with his story-telling ability, but also the exuberance of certain characters back in that period. The creativity and fluidity with which deals were struck together.
One of those pods that you wished didn’t end.
Listen on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or YouTube.

Framework I came across:
How to Deliver a Compelling Story
“Most communicators default to layering ideas, building gradually toward a final and grand conclusion… but what if you flipped this?
At first, this may sound counterintuitive, as we are taught to be bottom-up communicators, slowly layering piece by piece to finish on the biggest and boldest idea. However, the challenge with this communication style is that if the context isn’t clear, people can get lost in the messaging and the story fragments.
Flipping the approach means leading with the idea or the recommendation first. This way, your audience knows the destination you are taking them to, giving them a frame of reference to evaluate, engage, and challenge this idea in a thoughtful and constructive way. Starting with the most compelling idea first also creates a hook, or an anchor that holds their attention as the detail unfolds. Minds can often wander but a clear starting point keeps people connected and ensures the most important message lands with maximum impact.
Next time you share a key message, particularly in business, try leading with the idea first, then take people on the journey of why it matters and why they should lean in and listen.”

Mental Model I’ve been reflecting on:
The Importance of Finding Time For Yourself
"Go out for a walk.
It doesn't have to be a romantic walk in the park, spring at its most spectacular moment, flowers and smells and outstanding poetical imagery smoothly transferring you into another world.
It doesn't have to be a walk during which you'll have multiple life epiphanies and discover meanings no other brain ever managed to encounter.
Do not be afraid of spending quality time by yourself. Find meaning or don't find meaning but "steal" some time and give it freely and exclusively to your own self. Opt for privacy and solitude.
That doesn't make you antisocial or cause you to reject the rest of the world.
But you need to breathe.
And you need to be." – Albert Camus
And I’ll follow that up with a book excerpt courtesy of Riley Harper:

Tweet I liked:
Running Ads on Microsoft Bing
I just cracked the code to scaling ecom brands and no one’s talking about it
Whilst everyone’s competing on tik tok and facebook our clients are dominating in their own ecosystem
Generated over $13,000,000 this year doing it
The secret? Bing Ads.
Zero competition. Cheaper

Not sure how legit this is, but there is definitely something to be said about capitalising on pockets of the internet where there is less competition…
