#123 – Sweat Capital & Value Investing
Quote, Podcast, Article, Hack, Tweet.
Good morning everyone,
Hope you’re having a great week!
Finally launched a project that I’ve been working on for a while now, so really excited to tell you all!
More about it below.
Let’s jump in.

#123 at a Glance:
Quote: Time is a multiplier.
Podcast: Sweat Capital.
Article: Why the golden age of value investing is over.
Hack: The ‘Good Things Always Happen To Me‘ Note.
Tweet: The power of self-talk.
Quote I’ve been thinking about:
“Time will multiply whatever you feed it. Good habits make time your ally. Bad habits make time your enemy.”
Podcast I joined:
Sweat Capital
Super stoked to announce that I've joined forces with two of my good mates from Brisbane – Charlie Selth and Will Chapman – in rebranding The Business Of to launch Sweat Capital!
Built on the origins of The Business Of, Sweat Capital is a podcast and media platform for ambitious young people playing the long game.
After 100+ episodes and 2.5 years, Charlie & Will have done a cracking job taking a show where they interview business leaders across Australia from a passion project they started in their second year of uni to where it is today.
So, earlier in the year when they asked me to join the team, the question was simple:
"What does the show look like if we dial everything up to 100?"
And that’s exactly what I’ve come in to try and figure out.
A new era deserved a new name, hence our decision to rebrand the podcast, but it had a little more meaning to it than that…
We are honing the focus of the show to target the 18-25-year-old uni student/early graduate who is trying to make their way in the corporate world.
There are a few things to know about this cohort of individuals:
They don’t have an extensive network
Lack any significant life or professional experience
Don’t really have any runs on the board
Trying to find their way and establish their career path
But, what they do have is an abundance of Sweat Capital.
Energy, enthusiasm, grit, hunger, effort, work ethic, and all of the building blocks of meaningful success.
As a young person, the challenge then becomes where to most effectively deploy that capital for the best possible ROI…
That’s where the podcast comes in.
We’re democratising access to the business leaders of corporate Australia to help every young, aspiring businessperson answer that exact question.
Been working hard on this behind the scenes for the last few months so super excited to finally hit go!
First episode of the new rebrand went live last week where the 3 of us go into how we met, the decision to relaunch the show with a new name and new direction, and what you can expect over the next 12 months and beyond.
Listen on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or YouTube.

Article I read:
Why The Golden Age of Investing is Over
Terrific article in the AFR this week by Swiss-based investor and author Guy Spier on “why the golden age of value investing is over”.
TLDR and my synthesis of his overall message:
Value investing used to be predicated on the burdensome effort of conducting extensive research on companies and industries, with the necessary effort often falling in the “too hard basket” for many people. This gap effectively created asymmetric information which allowed value investors who have dedicated themselves to uncovering true value in equities to earn a profit from their investment decisions.
Artificial Intelligence has now turned that on its head, with the ability to consolidate research from every corner of the web in less than 10 seconds. Information is now far more symmetric. Stock research which people would have paid thousands of dollars for only a decade ago is now available at the click of a few button thanks to LLMs.
Some interesting perspectives and gave me quite a bit to think about.

Hack I’ve been using:
The ‘Good Things Always Happen To Me’ Note
Awesome hack to reinforce gratitude.
It goes like this:
Create a new note on your phone entitled “Good Things Always Happen To Me”. (Pro tip: Pin it for quick access in your notes app).
Every time something good happens to you – big or small – jot it down in the note.
Come back to it now and then to remind yourself just how blessed you are (sounds cheesy but trust me, give it a go).
In today’s world of constant comparison, it can seem like ‘lucky breaks’ are constantly falling on other people.
But only upon reflection when we see a list of little moments where things go our way do we begin to realise just how fortunate we truly are.
As an example to help get you started, these are some of the ones in my Notes app recently:
“Got to sit on some steps here in the city at dusk and watch hundreds of people walk by. What a privilege.”
“Got to talk with Dad on the phone for 1 hour today. What a blessing.”
“Found time to sit on a chair and brainstorm my thoughts whilst looking out to the ocean.”
“Was running late for an event and got a parking spot right in front.”
Can’t recommend this one highly enough.
