Quote I’ve been thinking about:

“The most certain sign of wisdom is cheerfulness.”

Michel de Montaigne

Podcast I listened to:

First Things THRST E026: Daniel Priestley

Daniel Priestley is a best-selling author, international speaker, and award-winning entrepreneur who built a multimillion-dollar empire across the UK, Australia, and Singapore.

Great conversation with a strong emphasis on practicality.

I especially found Daniel’s insights on landing pages and waitlist creation very compelling…

Will be implementing his strategy in that regard.

Hack I’ve been using:

How to Avoid Jet Lag Forever

Some of you might remember the last time I flew back to Sydney from Europe where I developed a little protocol that helped me avoid jet lag completely...

Very happy to say that it worked a treat once again, albeit with a few slight tweaks.

Given its success two from two and how many people struggle regulating their body clock after long-haul flights, I thought I’d share the protocol that worked for me.

Key thing to note is that these seven steps commence before you get to the airport for your flight, and finish after your first night’s sleep in your new location:

  1. Manually Change Your Phone Time/Date: On the day of your flight from your departure time zone, manually set your phone time/date to that of your arrival time zone. (So for me, since I was flying out of Rome back to Sydney, I set the time on my phone to Sydney even though I was still in Rome). This tip is psychological more than anything but makes a huge difference. It also helps keep you on track for step two.

  2. Eat, Sleep & Caffeinate Accordingly: From that point on, do your best to eat, sleep, and caffeinate in accordance with your arrival time zone. This inevitably means staying up when you’re tired and/or trying to fall asleep when you otherwise wouldn’t. On this trip, I used a Manta Sleep eye mask on the plane. It was $60 but is designed in a way that allows you to completely open your eyes under the mask such that you feel as though you’re in a pitch black room. Absolute game changer. Sleep music or ear plugs are also helpful too.

  3. Stay Hydrated: This tip applies to pretty much any flight you take, but for the protocol to work most effectively, consistent hydration is key.

  4. Exercise: Within ~3 hours of landing in your arrival time zone, strenuously exercise. A combination of cardio + resistance is ideal. Think rowing machines, incline treadmill running, stair master, etc.

  5. Sleep & Don’t Nap: Sleep at the correct time using optimal sleep hygiene (block-out curtains, non-exposure to blue light, etc). If you land in the morning, this means resisting the urge to take a nap during the day! This part is make or break. Go to the beach, get in the sun, have a coffee, catch up with friends, do whatever you need to do to avoid falling asleep until you’re supposed to.

  6. Schedule Your Wake Up Time: Set an alarm for the following morning just after sunrise. Don’t hit snooze.

  7. Get In The Sun: Sun exposure immediately after waking for at least 15 minutes.

I love the process of gamifying human biology.

Hopefully it works for you the next time you’re travelling!

Curious to see if it works for others too…

Video I watched:

JAPAN: THE MOVIE by Jonah McLachlan

You know when one of your friends does something so awesome that you just feel compelled to tell other people about it?

Well, last week, my good mate from my days working at Mark Bouris’ studio, Jonah McLachlan, just released his latest short film, JAPAN: THE MOVIE.

It essentially documents his ski trip to Japan last year with two of his mates as they pass through Hakuba, Tokyo, and Nozawa Osen.

Jonah is a super-talented film producer and his ability to to tell the story with such thoughtful editing and creativity was inspiring to watch.

Highly recommend checking it out if you’ve got a spare 20 minutes and are looking for an awesome YT video to be immersed in.
