Podcast you should listen to:

The Diary Of A CEO with Steven Bartlett: Julian Metcalfe

Julian Metcalfe is a super impressive businessman.

He successfully managed to build two billion-dollar companies.

At the same time.

The founder of Pret A Manger and Itsu joins Steven on the podcast to get into the weeds of what it’s really like to take a company from zero to $1 billion+, the keys behind successful hiring and firing, knowing when to expand your brand, and more.

Few businesspeople I’ve listened to before have demonstrated such incredible gut instincts throughout their journey yet have been equally impressive in articulating exactly how they got to where they are.

An absolute must-listen.

Marketing Strategy:

Specsavers’ Clever Marketing Stunt

Came across this brilliant marketing campaign from Specsavers via Jessica Hatzis on LinkedIn the other day:

This could so easily be dismissed as an amusing little stunt but it has actually been 22 years in the making…

I’m guessing that when the majority of you first saw this picture, you instantly thought “Haha, should have gone to Specsavers”.

That famous slogan was initially launched in 2002 and it has easily stood the test of time and proven itself as one of the most memorable advertisement taglines of the last two decades – in Australia at least.

But here’s the true underlying brilliance behind this type of campaign:

It’s only after years of tireless work dedicated by their marketing team in honing the brand’s presence and reputation that allows stunts like this to be so successful and resonate so strongly with the audience.

It is the public’s familiarity with that memorable slogan that creates the connection with the brilliance behind this campaign.

Fair play, Specsavers. Bloody clever stuff.

Hack you should try:

How to Respond to a Liar

Great video I came across the other day with 3 tips on how to respond to someone when you know they’re lying to you.
