“Every man has two lives, and the second starts when he realises he has just one.”
Podcast you should listen to:
The Joe Rogan Experience #1933 - Jordan Peterson
Jordan B. Peterson is a clinical psychologist and the author of several best-selling books including 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos and Beyond Order: 12 More Rules for Life.
He is an extremely fascinating guy, there’s absolutely no doubt about it, and he’s got a lot to say about a lot of things. I particularly loved the breadth of topics they covered in this chat ranging from modern masculinity to censorship in the social media era and everything in between.
This was (incredibly) his 8th appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience and in the words of Joe himself, “Probably the best conversation I’ve ever had with Jordan Peterson, he was focused and on point.”

Framework:
The Eisenhower Decision Matrix
Dwight D. Eisenhower was the 34th President of the United States, serving as president from 1953 to 1961. Before his presidency, Eisenhower had a distinguished military career, rising to the rank of General in the United States Army, playing a prominent role as the Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Forces during World War II. He is often remembered for his leadership, military achievements, and clever decision matrix.
The "Eisenhower Decision Matrix," or "Eisenhower Principle," is a productivity and time management tool comprising a simple two-dimensional grid that helps prioritize tasks based on their urgency and importance.

Now, while it is typically applied to organisations, I think that the matrix serves as a valuable decision-making filter through which we should determine when we sit down to complete different tasks.
Too often we get bogged down in different things because we may find them more comfortable or enjoyable, meanwhile, we are completely avoiding those tasks which are actually important and urgent in the top left of that diagram.
Something to think about…

The 2 Most Powerful Words in the Universe
This thought came to me when I was on a run the other day…
It was 6:30 am and I was in my stride, getting closer to my target of 10km for the day at a 4:40/km pace. Decent.
At around the 5km mark, I had just run up a steep incline hill and it’s safe to say, my legs were really feeling it. Late night the night before, had a lot of work to do when I got home, had a soccer game coming up the next day… the list of excuses running through my mind were endless in that moment.
The only issue? I still had 3km to reach my target. My mindset completely shifted after I said these two words:
“I WILL.”
Now, I’m not trying to be some kind of loud and obnoxious motivational speaker that we see on social media barking at you through the phone. Not at all.
But having said that, there is a very real psychological impact that occurs after saying these two words.
You see, when you say “I will,” you pre-determine the outcome. The outcome changes from possible or probable, to certain. It implies that no matter what happens, you will make it happen.
“I will” doesn’t care about excuses or distractions. “I will” has no time for tired legs or heavy breathing. '“I will” doesn’t know about all of the reasons why you couldn’t or shouldn’t or maybe won’t. “I will” connects you inextricably to your desired outcome and leaves no room for laziness or self-doubt in between.
I can’t WILL
I could WILL
I might WILL
I WILL try
I believe that many of us should start reframing our actions using “I will” a lot more often.

Reminder to self:
Don’t look for new solutions when your first solution hasn’t had the amount of time you knew it would take to work.
